Leroy Sane has returned to training after undergoing groin surgery in July. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has provided an update on Leroy Sane fitness, with the 28-year-old forward expected to return before the international break in early September.
Sane has been sideline for Bayern’s pre-season after undergoing surgery on a groin injury in July to address the issue, which he suffered in the second half of last season and Euro 2024, but the 28-year-old has returned to training and could return before the international break in September.
Bayern Munich are set to open their season at Wolfsburg on Sunday, August 25, before hosting Freiburg on Sunday, September 1 before the international break, and Eberl says the Bavarians will reassess whether Sane is ready to return.
“I don’t know if it makes sense to play him before the international break,” Eberl said of Sane’s latest situation after Tuesday’s 4-0 friendly win over Grasshoppers.
Sané missed a number of games due to a pubic bone issue for much of the second half of last season. He played through the pain barrier in the crunch UEFA Champions League games. The injury also affected him at this summer’s European Championship, Promotion Ufabet and he decided to undergo surgery following Germany’s exit in the quarterfinals.
The hope at Bayern will be that Sané can finally put the injury behind him and rediscover his form from the first half of last season. The Germany international will have a crucial role to play for Bayern this season and could line up alongside the likes of Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and Harry Kane in attack.
